Rangers Head Professional Scout Dave Brown
checks in from the 2005 IIHF World Junior Championship with a report on Canadian left winger Nigel Dawes (right) and United States right winger Ryan Callahan
"Dawes had a good game on Monday in Canada's 8-1 win over Sweden, chipping in with a goal on a nice shot. He shows good awareness and vision and possesses very good hands. He anticipates the play and passes the puck extremely well, and was especially effective on the power play. At 5-8, he lacks some size but does not play afraid. On Tuesday, Nigel showed his playmaking ability once again in Canada's 9-0 win over Germany. He made a nice pass to set-up Anthony Stewart for Canada's sixth goal and also assisted on Sidney Crosby's second goal. I feel Nigel shows a lot promise to his game. He has good hands skills and the intelligence to be a skill player."
"Callahan was one of the USA's top players in their 6-4 win over Switzerland on Monday. He worked very hard on each shift. Ryan read the play well and backed up the point when he had to, speaking to his defensive consiousness. He also finished his checks and played with grit, in addition to his one goal and two assists. His energy, work ethic and willingness to grind were impressive."
