Brian Leetch Ties Rangers All-Time Assists Record

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers
Defenseman Brian Leetch tallied his 615th assist during a 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks this evening at General Motors Place. The tally tied him with Rod Gilbert for first place on the New York Rangers all-time assists list.

Trailing 4-1 in the third period, the Blueshirts rallied back with two late goals from Kim Johnsson at 11:14 and Valeri Kamensky at 12:21 to cut Vancouver's lead to 4-3. It was on Kamensky's goal that Leetch was awarded an assist that would move him alongside legend Rod Gilbert for the most assists in a Rangers jersey.

Leetch, 32, is in his 14th season as a member of the Rangers after being selected by the club in the first round (ninth overall) of the 1986 NHL ENTRY DRAFT on June 21.
