Brian Leetch Becomes Rangers All-time Assists Leader

With an assist Saturday night on center Petr Nedved’s goal at 10:02 of the first period, New York Rangers’ defenseman Brian Leetch passed Rod Gilbert and took over sole possession of first place on the Rangers’ all-time assists list with the 616th assist of his Rangers/NHL career. Leetch achieves this feat in his 876th game in a Rangers uniform, while Gilbert finished his career with 1,065 games over 16 seasons. Leetch also added a goal and another assist in the 5-4 overtime win over Calgary.

The 6-1, 200-pounder has registered 190 goals and 617 assists for 807 points over 876 career games. Over his 13 NHL seasons, Leetch ranks third on the Rangers all-time points list (807), fifth on the Rangers all-time games played list (876) and 12th on the team’s all-time goals list (190).

Leetch is first on the team with 26 points (six goals and 20 assists). In addition, his 26 points ranks first among all NHL defensemen.

The native of Corpus Christi, Texas was originally selected with the Rangers first choice, ninth overall, in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft.
