New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with left wing Trevor Gillies. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Gillies, 25, skated in 61 matches with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, tallying two goals and one assist for three points, along with 277 penalty minutes. His 277 penalty minutes ranked first on the team. He also ranked third in the league with 35 major penalties.
The 6-3, 220-pounder has appeared in 99 career AHL matches with Springfield, the Lowell Lock Monsters, Worcester IceCats and Providence Bruins, registering two goals and two assists for four points, along with 468 penalty minutes. A native of Cambridge Ontario, Gillies has also appeared in 210 career East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) matches with the Mississippi Sea Wolves, Greensboro Generals, Augusta Lynx, Richmond Renegades and Peoria Rivermen, tallying one goal and 15 assists for 16 points, along with 1,025 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning professional, he spent three seasons (1996-99) in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), registering seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points, along with 563 penalty minutes in 156 games.
