SHORTS WEATHER - The Blueshirts' third goal of the game came shorthanded. In 2021-22, New York had eight shorthanded tallies, tied for the ninth most in the league.
THREE-GOAL FIRST - The Rangers scored three goals in their first frame of the 2022-23 preseason, with goals from Jimmy Vesey, Chris Kreider and K'Andre Miller. Last season, the Blueshirts scored three or more goals in the first period five times (Jan. 2 vs. TBL, Mar. 12 at DAL, Mar. 25 vs. PIT, Apr. 21 at NYI).

  • Brennan Othmann, a Rangers first round selection in 2021, recorded two assists/points in his second career preseason contest with the Rangers (Sept. 28, 2021 vs. Boston). Last season with the Flint Firebirds of the OHL, he ranked second in the league in goals and seventh in points.
    - Jimmy Vesey opened the scoring in this preseason with a power play goal. Vesey recorded all seven of his career power plays when he was with the Rangers from 2016-2019. Last season, Vesey recorded eight goals and seven assists for 15 points in 58 games with the Devils.
    - K'Andre Miller capped off the Rangers' first period with a shorthanded goal with four seconds to go in the frame. Miller also led the Rangers with five hits.
    - Zac Jonesscored the Rangers' fourth goal of the game with assists from Braden Schneider and Kaapo Kakko. Jones has six career regular season assists in 22 career regular season games.
    - Jacob Trouba, in his first (unofficial) game as captain of the Rangers, registered an assist and was a plus-2 in the win.
    - Chris Kreider leaped right back into 2021-22 form with a goal at MSG. Last season, Kreider scored 28 of his 52 goals on home ice, tied for the third most home goals in the NHL.
    - Kaapo Kakkoshared the team-high with a plus-2 rating, while also adding an assist.
    - Igor Shesterkinpitched a shutout in his action tonight, recording 14 saves on 14 shots in 31:41 of time on ice. Twelve of his saves came at even strength while two came on the power play. In his Vezina-winning campaign in 2021-22, Shesterkin notched six shutouts, the third most in the NHL.
    - Libor Hajekrecorded a team-high 21:44 of time on ice, with 3:04 minutes coming shorthanded. Hajek's regular season career-high of TOI is 21:44 on March 7, 2019 at Detroit.
    - Mika Zibanejadtallied an assist and was a plus-2, tied for the team-high, in the win. Zibanejad went 8-for-11 (73%) in the faceoff circle as well.
    - Filip Chytil led the Rangers with five shots on goal and tabbed an assist on Vesey's goal.
