Alumni instruct with holiday spirit

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers
The month of December was a very busy time for New York Rangers alumni and kids in the New York Metropolitan area.  Working with three of the Rangers rink partners, the Rangers held hockey clinics to give local youth the opportunity to receive instruction from the Hockey Development Team and Rangers alumni on the beginning stages of hockey as well as the more advance levels.

Native New Yorker and former Rangers star Brian Mullen conducted a Future Rangers clinic on Dec. 20 at Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Conn. It was one of three youth clinics involving Rangers alumni held at at local rinks during the month of December.
The first of two Future Rangers Hockey Clinics was on December 11th at Brewster Ice Arena in Brewster, NY.  New York Rangers Alumnus Nick Fotiu attended and worked with 30 children who were just getting started on their hockey careers.  Fotiu was able to teach the eager kids how to skate on the ice as well as some basic knowledge of the game.

The second Future Rangers Hockey Clinic was on December 20th at Danbury Ice Arena in Connecticut.  New York Rangers Alumnus Brian Mullen spent time instructing at this Monday night clinic, giving the kids a chance to enjoy a unique hockey experience and learn the basics of the game from a former pro.

Fotiu and Mullen seemed to be just as excited as the kids while they were on the ice for these sessions.  Each clinic ended with some words of wisdom from each Rangers alumnus and closed with an autograph session for the children.  Both clinics were a great start to the kids’ hockey careers.  The Future Rangers program teaches everything from learning to skate to playing hockey and helps grow the game of hockey throughout the tri-state area.

On December 13th, Peter and Chris Ferraro were at City of Long Beach Arena for another session of the Rangers Youth Hockey Clinic Series.  For a couple of hours, kids of all skill levels were able to work on their fundamentals and enjoy a day on the ice with two former Rangers that grew up in nearby Port Jefferson, NY.  After an exhausting clinic, the children were treated to an autograph session with the Ferraro brothers, who were excited to give back to the game and brighten the kids’ holiday spirits.
