2013 New York Rangers Youth Hockey Camp presented by Chase
Week 3 Day 1 Recap:
On-Ice AM Sessions: New York Ranger Alumni Dan Blackburn joined the players for their morning skate instructing drills that taught skating speed, agility and transitions. Freeze tag and backward pivots were two drills used in practicing balance, agility and puck control. Goaltenders were run through position specific skating drills.
On-Ice PM Sessions: Current New York Ranger JT Miller stopped by to assist with on-ice instruction. Players were run through drills which focused on edge control while improving explosiveness, puck handling and continuous movement after a shot. Our dedicated goaltending coach took time to train goalies on rebound control with their sticks after which moving into two shot drills.
Dynamic Training: Was led by Coach Jason Fortino of Total Nunziato Training located in Elmwood Park, NJ. Monday’s program concentrated on warming up campers for on-ice training and core strength.
Classroom Session: Began the week with an introductory lesson on nutrition. Campers were each given a “Fit Book” to track their diet and physical exercise throughout the week.
Off-Ice Skills Sessions: coaching staff instructed players on stationary puck handling through drills such as figure 8’s, hands & feet and hand slide wide.
