2004 NHL All-Star Game Balloting Update - Eastern Conference

Goaltender Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils, with 76,032 votes, leads all Eastern Conference votegetters in the Best Buy/NHL All-Star Fan Balloting Program presented by PlayStation™2. Brodeur ranks first among NHL goaltenders with 16 wins and seven shutouts. The voting will determine the starting lineups for the 2004 NHL All-Star Game, which will be played on Sunday, February 8, at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, (3:00 PM ET - ABC, CBC, RDS, NHL Radio).

Brodeur's teammates Scott Stevens (64,335 votes) and Scott Niedermayer (57,531) lead all Eastern Conference defensemen; Joe Thornton (34,584), Boston Bruins, leads all centers; and Ilya Kovalchuk (75,307), Atlanta Thrashers, and Martin St. Louis (39,694), Tampa Bay Lightning, top all wings.

Rangers defenseman Brian Leetch currently sits in third place among Eastern Conference defensemen with 39,228 votes, while Alex Kovalev (17,927) ranks 13th among wingers and Eric Lindros (10,383) ranks 11th among centers.

Blueshirt netminder Mike Dunham currently sits in the seventh spot among goaltenders with 15,312 votes. Tom Poti ranks 16th among Eastern Conference defensemen with 13,437 votes.

Fans around the world can vote to elect the starting lineups for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star Teams for the 2004 NHL All-Star Game by participating in the Best Buy/NHL All-Star Fan Balloting Program presented by PlayStation 2, through December 31.

Voting is being conducted through an electronic ballot on www.nhl.com, through broadband kiosks at 580 Best Buy locations in the United States, via paper ballots at all 30 NHL arenas and, for the first time, via Nextel phones in the U.S.

Fans also have the unique opportunity to vote for the NHL Legendary All-Star Team brought to you by Nextel via their Nextel phones, at U.S. Best Buy stores, on NHL.com or through an additional panel on the All-Star paper ballot through December 31. Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr are among the all-time greats whom hockey fans around the world can elect to the Team, which will be announced during All-Star Weekend. The ballot includes all retired NHL players who were selected to seven or more NHL All-Star Games.
