New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the Rangers 2001 training camp will be held at Madison Square Garden, marking the first time the Rangers have held training camp in Manhattan in the club's 76-year history. Practices will be open to the public and held over three days at The Garden, beginning Wednesday, September 12 and concluding Friday, September 14. Training camp will culminate with a Blue - White intrasquad scrimmage Friday evening at 6:00 PM, with admission free to the general public.
"We are pleased to be able to provide our fans with an opportunity to be a part of such a special event," said Sather. "By holding training camp at The Garden, Rangers' fans will be able to get a close look at the players who will make up this year's club, as well as a number of the talented young prospects within our organization."
The Rangers 2001 pre-season schedule features three home games at The Garden and three two-game road trips. The team kicks off their exhibition schedule on the road, beginning Saturday, September 15 against the Montreal Canadiens at the Molson Centre, followed by a visit to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit to challenge the Red Wings on Sunday, September 16. New York will host the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, September 19 at Madison Square Garden in their pre-season home opener. On Thursday, September 20, the Rangers will embark on another two-game road swing, facing the Philadelphia Flyers at the First Union Center in Philadelphia, and then traveling to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for a match against the New York Islanders on Saturday, September 22. The Rangers return to Madison Square Garden to battle the Flyers on Sunday, September 23. The club's final road trip of the pre-season consists of a visit to Continental Airlines Arena on Tuesday, September 25 to meet the Devils and then to the Fleet Center in Boston to challenge the Bruins on Saturday, September 29. New York concludes its exhibition schedule on Sunday, September 30 at Madison Square Garden against the Bruins.
The Rangers pre-season home opener against New Jersey (Wed., Sept. 19,) will begin at 7:00 PM, while the club's two remaining pre-season home games against Philadelphia (Sun., Sept. 23) and Boston (Sun., Sept. 30) will feature a 5:00 PM start time. Tickets for all home pre-season games at The Garden, which will be priced at $40.00 and $25.00 each, will go on sale Tuesday, August 21, at Noon, at the Madison Square Garden box office and at all Ticketmaster locations and telephone outlets.
