June 15, 1985 - Selected goaltender Mike Richter in the second round (28th overall) of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft.

June 21, 1986 - Selected defenseman Brian Leetch in the first round (ninth overall) of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft.

June 17, 1989 - Selected defenseman Joby Messier in the sixth round (118th overall) in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

July 17, 1989 - Named Neil Smith general manager.

June 16, 1990 - Selected defenseman Sergei Zubov in the fifth round (85th overall) in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft ... Selected center Sergei Nemchinov in the 12th round (244th overall) in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft.

March 5, 1991 - Acquired forward Joe Kocur from the Detroit Red Wings along with Per Djoos in exchange for Kevin Miller, Dennis Vial and Jim Cummins.

June 9, 1991 - Selected Alexei Kovalev in the first round (15th overall) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft ... Selected Corey Hirsch in the in the eighth round (169th overall) in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

September 3, 1991 - Signed forward Adam Graves as a free agent. Troy Mallette was sent to the Edmonton Oilers as compensation.

October 4, 1991 - Acquired forward Mark Messier from the Edmonton Oilers along with future considerations in exchange for Bernie Nicholls, Steven Rice and Louie DeBrusk.

November 12, 1991 - Acquired defenseman Jeff Beukeboom from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for David Shaw and for the future considerations owed to the Oilers as part of the Messier trade of October 4, 1991.

March 9, 1992 - Acquired defenseman Jay Wells from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Randy Moller.

June 20, 1992 - Selected defenseman Mattias Norstrom in the second round (48th overall) 1992 NHL Entry Draft.

December 11, 1992 - Acquired defenseman Kevin Lowe from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Roman Oksyuta and the Rangers' third round draft choice (Alexander Kerch) in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

December 28, 1992 - Acquired forward Ed Olczyk from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Tie Domi and Kris King.

March 17, 1993 - Acquired forward Esa Tikkanen from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Doug Weight.

March 22, 1993 - Acquired forward Mike Hartman from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Randy Gilhen.

April 17, 1993 - Named Mike Keenan head coach.

June 25, 1993 - Acquired defenseman Doug Lidster from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for John Vanbiesbrouck ... Acquired goaltender Glenn Healy from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for the return of Tampa Bay's third round choice in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft ... Tampa Bay's draft choice had been obtained by the Rangers as compensation for the Lightning signing Rob Zamuner as a free agent on July 13, 1992.

July 29, 1993 - Signed forward Greg Gilbert as a free agent.

September 9, 1993 - Acquired defenseman Alexander Karpovtsev from the Quebec Nordiques in exchange for Mike Hurlbut.

October 3, 1993 - Claimed forward Mike Hudson from the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL Waiver Draft.

November 2, 1993 - Acquired forwards Steve Larmer and Nick Kypreos along with defenseman Barry Richter and a pick in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft from the Hartford Whalers in exchange for James Patrick and Darren Turcotte.

March 21, 1994 - Acquired forwards Stephane Matteau and Brian Noonan from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Tony Amonte and the rights to Matt Oates ... Acquired forward Glenn Anderson along with the rights to Scott Malone and a fourth round choice in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Mike Gartner ... Acquired forward Craig MacTavish from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Todd Marchant.
