Be a part of the 1st Annual 8U Junior Rangers Cup
February 29th & March 1st

The New York Rangers are excited to present the first annual 8 and under Junior Rangers Cup! Over 40 youth hockey associations from across the tri-state area will compete against each other for a chance to hoist the inaugural Junior Rangers Cup at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, March 1st, 2020. In partnership with USA Hockey, this tournament was designed for fun and will celebrate some of the youngest players in our game catering to all skill levels through 3 divisions of play.



Overview: All players receive a VIP gift bag, a 4 game guarantee and a chance to represent their region and team in the finals at Madison Square Garden. All locations will feature off-ice activities including special guests, DJ and giveaways throughout the events.
Game Play: A competition committee will evaluate the teams registered within each region to create 3 divisions of play. Each region will consist of 4 teams per division and all teams will play (4) 30-minute cross-ice games over a 3-4 hour span. The top 4 Teams from each Division & Region (12 teams total) advance to the finals at MSG after the Rangers host the Flyers earlier that afternoon.

All Regional play will be hosted on Saturday, February 29th at the following locations: 

Brewster Ice Arena (Brewster, NY) from 11:10AM - 5:10PM


Sports Center of CT (Shelton, CT) from 9:45AM - 3:45PM


Protec Ponds (Somerset, NJ) from 2:00PM - 8:00PM


Long Beach Arena (Long Beach, NY) from 8:30AM - 12:30PM & 1:30PM - 3:30PM


Overview: All players who advance to the finals will receive a jersey and socks to represent their respective region and 2-game minimum on The Garden ice. Games will feature NHL Game Presentation, special appearances and off-ice activities on the concourse at MSG.
Game Play: All of the Final games will be hosted on Sunday, March 1st at Madison Square Garden as follows:

  • ROUND 1 - Winner Region 1 vs. Winner Region 2 and Winner Region 3 vs. Winner Region 4
  • ROUND 2 - Winner vs. Winner (Final) and Loser vs. Loser (Consolation)

2020 Rules & Guidelines

• This is a fun tournament designed for players of all ability levels.
• The tournament will feature 8U teams playing half-ice games against respective age group.

Team/Player Qualifications:
A team is qualified to play a scheduled tournament game if:

  • The tournament registration fee has been paid.
  • The team representative has submitted a copy of the team's roster.
  • o Players listed on their respective USA Hockey/Hockey Canada rosters may play in any or all games during the tournament; however players may only play for one team in a division.
  • Only USAH registered players & coaches will be allowed in the player area (on-ice, on bench). A coach may represent more than 1 team if needed.

Tournament Procedures/Game Structure:

  • Games will be (1) 25-minute run-time period.
  • All teams should be prepared to play 15 minutes in advance (this may be requested by tournament committee).
  • Players should have even playing time, to the best of the coaches' ability.
  • No time outs will be permitted.
  • Forfeits: Will be scored 1-0 (Teams forfeiting round robin games will be ineligible for playoff games)
  • Overtime format: In the event of a tie at the end of semi-final and championship games; the format is consecutive single-round shootouts until a winner is decided. All positional players must shoot once before a player is allowed to shoot again.
  • No score will reflect a differential of more than 6 and will not count in the standings.

Seeding/Ranking Teams: 
1. Total Points: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss        
2. Head to head - two (2) teams only. In the event more than two teams are tied one team must have beaten all of the teams tied with to advance.
3. Least goals allowed
4. Most goals for
5. Coin toss
6. Please note that after each individual tie is broken the process will revert back to step two.

Jerseys: Home - Light / Away - Dark 

  • In the event both teams have the same color jersey, the HOME team will wear pullovers provided by the tournament.


  • Any players incurring what would be considered reasonable penalties will be sent off the ice for the remainder of their shift. Teams will play shorthanded. If a second penalty occurs, they may substitute one player, not play 2 players down. Coaches should explain infractions to players and to be used as coaching moment. 
  • The Junior Rangers Cup will uphold USA Hockey Zero Tolerance
    • The Jamboree is to have fun and promote good sportsmanship among players, coaches, officials, parents and other spectators.
    • Infractions of the Zero Tolerance Policy will be dealt with swiftly and fairly to all involved.
