Ace's Got Skills 2009
The Nashville Predators recently hosted their 3rd Annual Ace’s Got Skills competitions for squirt and peewee house and travel hockey players to determine who’s “Got Skills” in the South. Competitions were held January 4-7, 2009 at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, A-Game Sportsplex in Franklin and the Ice Complex in Huntsville. During the events, close to 100 hockey players and goaltenders ages 9-12 took part in the Ace’s Got Skills Nashville Predators regional competitions, which tested participants in fastest skater, hardest shot, accuracy, shootout and best goaltender. Throughout the competitions, Nashville Predators players Radek Bonk, Martin Erat, Vernon Fiddler, and team mascot GNASH, along with Huntsville Havoc player Martin Kubaliak participated in the competitions and lent their professional experience to these young hockey players.

Winners from the regional competitions each received an Ace’s Got Skills medal, tickets to an upcoming Predators game, courtesy of Preds defenseman Ryan Suter, and will be recognized on January 19, 2009 at the Predators vs. New Jersey Devils game at the Sommet Center. In addition, winners will have the opportunity to advance to the Ace’s Got Skills National Finals this summer as the Nashville Predators representatives to compete against youth hockey players from other NHL cities.

Supported by the NHL, Ace's Got Skills has been created to showcase the glory of the human spirit both on the ice and through the league's charitable partnership with the Ace Bailey Children's Foundation. Established in memory of Garnet ‘Ace’ Bailey, who was tragically killed in the September 11th terrorist attacks, the foundation aims improve medical programs, environments, and professional services within hospitals. Through their efforts, the Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation hopes to relieve the stress of hospitalization for children who have recently undergone or will forego major medical treatment.
