Youth Players Head To New York City

by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators

The fifth Annual “Ace’s Got Skills” program, supported by the National Hockey League, will hold its National Championships at the Aviator Sports Complex in New York City June 26-28, 2009.

The event which features more than 100 boys and girls from across the country, including 16 players representing the Nashville Predators, was launched in memory of Garnet “Ace” Bailey - an 11-year veteran of the NHL and a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Boston Bruins (1970 and 1972). On September 11, 2001, Ace was performing his duties as director of pro scouting for the Los Angeles Kings when his plane struck one of the World Trade Center Towers.

Modeled after the NHL’s popular All-Star SuperSkills Competition, the “Ace’s Got Skills” program gives players ages 9-12 the opportunity to test their skills in skating, puck handling, shooting and goaltending categories. Regional winners from eight NHL markets - including Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers - will compete in the National Championships.

In January 2009, the Predators held competitions in Huntsville, AL and locally in Franklin and Nashville. The top Squirt and Peewee house and travel players in each skill level earned a chance to advance to Nationals. The Nashville Predators would like to wish the following players good luck as they represent the Nashville Predators in their given events:
