World Championship Update: Seven Preds to Face Off in Semifinals

Seven of the eight Preds who began the day with a quarterfinal contest at the World Championship are moving on.
The United States, Canada, Sweden and Switzerland were all victorious in their Thursday outings, advancing to the semifinals on Saturday to determine who will play for gold and bronze on Sunday. Eeli Tolvanen is the only Predators skater not moving on as Finland was defeated by the Swiss on Thursday.
Predators players will face off against one another to determine those medal matchups, with Nick Bonino (USA) taking on Filip Forsberg, Viktor Arvidsson and Mattias Ekholm (Sweden) in the first contest of the day on Saturday. Then, it'll be Kyle Turris (Canada) meeting Roman Josi and Kevin Fiala (Switzerland) in the late game.

The Preds did their parts for their respective countries in order to advance, with Turris scoring one of two third-period Canadian goals to help lead to an eventual 5-4 overtime win against Russia. Bonino assisted on Cam Atkinson's goal as the Americans took down the Czech Republic 3-2, and Fiala assisted on Switzerland's first goal in their 3-2 win over the Finns.
It was Nashville's Swedish contingent who made the most noticeable impact, with Forsberg, Arvidsson and Ekholm all factoring in on the scoresheet in their 3-2 triumph over Latvia. Forsberg got the first tally of the night, shooting the puck past Arvidsson who was in the midst of one of his classic jumping screens in front, and then Ekholm found Arvidsson for a goal of his own, a masterful redirection past the Latvian netminder.
The NHL Network has the semifinals covered with the United States facing Sweden at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday morning, followed by Canada and Switzerland at noon. The bronze and gold medal games then come on Sunday.
