The Nashville Predators foundation recently announced five recipients of the Jack Diller Education Award. A total of $10,000 in college scholarships was awarded to the five students, who were selected from over 150 high school seniors who applied for the award. Applicants were required to meet the following criteria: Be a college-bound senior currently attending a Nashville or Middle Tennessee area high school; display leadership qualities in the classroom and/or inspirational qualities on the athletic field; hold a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 from sophomore year to senior high school year; and demonstrate the value of education, good work ethic and community outreach. All candidates were nominated by either a teacher or a coach.
The 2006 recipients of the Jack Diller Education Award are:
Lisa Bentley of Springfield
Lisa is undecided which college she will be attending in the fall.
Sara Bentley of Springfield
Sara will be attending Belmont University in the fall.
William Dale of Nashville
William will be attending the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in the fall.
Hayley Harmon of Lebanon
Hayley will be attending Tennessee Tech in the fall.
Bao Nguyen of Antioch
Bao will be attending Belmont University in the fall.
The five students will be recognized at the April 13 Predators game in a presentation with Jack Diller, the first President in Nashville Predators franchise history. Diller, who retired in July 2005, is the current Chairman of the Predators Foundation.
