Weber, Nashville Fire helping dogs get adopted

A dog named Souffle didn't even make it off the Bridgestone Arena plaza without getting adopted on Monday afternoon.
That's exactly the kind of enthusiasm Metro Animal Care and Control is hoping for from the community as the holidays approach, and Predators defenseman Yannick Weber, the Nashville Predators Foundation and the Metro Nashville Fire Department are helping to make it happen.
Following Monday's Preds practice, Weber assisted in presenting a check for $7,000 from the sale of Preds Fire t-shirts and jerseys last season on behalf of the Metro Fire Department and the Weber Woof Pack. In addition, MACC will be hosting $7 adoptions for the remainder of the week in honor of Weber' No. 7 jersey.

"It's great to see that the fire department wants to support a great cause," Weber, who has two huskies himself, said. "They could've chosen any kind of foundation, and they chose to go toward the animals… That money goes a long way for the Metro Shelter and we hope to keep it going."

The presentation came in conjunction with the launch of the Weber Woof Pack, an exclusive membership for Preds fans and their furry loved ones. Pets will receive a package with exclusive Preds pet merchandise, a card signed by Yannick, his girlfriend Kayla and their dogs, June and Willow, and invites to exclusive local dog park meet-ups with the couple. Most importantly, when signing up to be part of the Pack, the proceeds will benefit the Nashville Humane Association. Information on how to sign up will come at a later date.
As of now, MACC is completely full with dogs and cats up for adoption. The hope is to clear the shelter by Christmas, and combined with the donation and the $7 adoption fees, that goal is now closer to being attained.
"This was something that we wanted to do for a while," Nashville Fire Hockey Team Manager Scott Wrenn said. "The guys I work with and play on the team with, they all knew this is something I'm very passionate about, so this year we decided to do it… We wanted to do seven thousand in honor of Yannick Weber, and this is something he's passionate about. Like myself, he wants to get that shelter cleared out."
