Weber First Preds Player to Surpass 200,000 Votes

by Alexis Tahara / Nashville Predators

Another week of the All-Star Fan Vote presented by SiriusXM is in the books and the NHL announced that voting has surpassed the 20 million mark in just the fourth week of voting, an average of nearly 714,286 votes a day. With voters from all 196 countries casting ballots, the NHL released the most up-to-date listing of vote getters for each position; the Top 10 goalies, Top 30 defensemen and Top 40 forwards.

The six players (one goalie, three forwards, two defensemen) selected by fans will earn spots in the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Game on Jan. 25 in Columbus, Ohio, with the remaining final rosters being determined by the NHL.

All five Preds, Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi, James Neal, Pekka Rinne and Shea Weber who held spots among the top vote getters in their positions as of last week’s voting update (Tuesday, Dec. 9), have maintained their positioning among the top candidates in their respective positions.

In the last week, Rinne received 56,993 votes, an average of nearly 8,142 votes a day, the most votes gathered in the previous seven days by a Preds player.

Defenseman Weber became the first Preds player to surpass the 200,000 vote mark. With 226,572 votes cast with his name to date, Weber maintains his hold on the seventh spot in the position. Weber’s defensive partner Josi currently sits at 15th among defenseman voting, making the Preds one of only four teams (Chicago, Montreal, Calgary) to have two blueliners in the Top 15.

Neal and Forsberg, who last week sat at 29th and 30th in the forward category respectively, flipped flopped over the past seven days with Forsberg taking over the 29th spot and Neal moving to 30th. The two linemates are currently separated by a mere 631 votes.
