Preds prospects Chase Balisy
and Austin Watson
are among the top US junior players scheduled to participate in this year's USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp from Aug. 6-13 in Lake Placid, N.Y. The evaluation camp is generally considered to be a tryout for this winter's World Junior Championship team.
The camp opens with practices and intrasquad games on Saturday and Sunday followed by games against the Junior National squads from Finland and Sweden through the middle of the week. Nashville's 2011 second round pick Miikka Salomaki
is also scheduled to play for Team Finland during the evaluation camp round-robin tournament.
Watson, Nashville's first round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, was a participant in last summer's camp, scoring two goals in six games during the round-robin tournament against the US split squad, Team Finland, and Team Sweden. Watson followed up his summer performance with 68 points in 68 games for Peterborough in the OHL, including a team-high 34 goals.
Balisy, a sixth round pick by the Preds in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, was also a participant in last summer's camp, going scoreless in three games during the round-robin tournament. He followed that with a strong season at Western Michigan University, earning CCHA All-Rookie Team honors with 12 goals and 30 points in 42 games during his Freshman season in 2010-11.
Watson is scheduled to open camp on USA Team Blue, while Balisy is scheduled to open camp on USA Team White. Click here
