Nashville, Tenn. (April 11, 2018) - The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are unlike anything else. The passion, the excitement, and yes, the playoff beards.
BEARD-A-THON® strives to harness the momentum of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the good of the local community. The initiative challenges Preds fans to get creative with the tradition of playoff beards in order to raise funds for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
All proceeds raised by the Nashville Predators Foundation during BEARD-A-THON® 2018 will be channeled into the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund presented by Twice Daily. This fund is a source of much-needed fundraising for pediatric cancer research at Vanderbilt. Additionally, the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund presented by Twice Daily works with the Predators team to host a series of opportunities for young patrons of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital and their families to get a special dose of the Smashville hockey experience.

Fans participating in BEARD-A-THON® can do so as either Individuals, or part of a Beard Growing Team. Both types of participants will create online BEARD-A-THON® profiles registered with the Preds. All Predators participants will then compete against fans from the other NHL playoff teams to raise the most for their respective charities.
Traditional beard growers can partake in BEARD-A-THON® as individual participants, who will update their profile to track the progression of their beards and will ask their contacts to pledge money based on their beard's growth and personality. Non-beard growers can download an official Stanley BEARD-A-THON® companion and ask their contacts to pledge money based on their commitment to the campaign demonstrated through photographs uploaded of the Beard Team and their BEARD-A-THON® companion having everyday adventures around Nashville.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Nashville Predators will participate in BEARD-A-THON® to raise money for the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund presented by Twice Daily. A playoff beard is the superstitious practice of a National Hockey League player not shaving his beard during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The player stops shaving when his team enters the playoffs and does not shave until his team is eliminated or wins the Stanley Cup. It is believed that the tradition was started in the 1980s by the four-time Stanley Cup Champion, New York Islanders. In recent years, other sports and other players have claimed the playoff beard tradition, but it is a hockey, and always will be, a hockey tradition.
Prizes will be awarded to the Individual and/or Team Beard that has raised the most funds during that time. Fans can also participate on social using @PredsFoundation and #letsgrowpreds.
