December 2009: Bison Hockey Hat Trick
(Story submitted by Loretta Kimble, Station Camp Manager)
Station Camp formed a team as a co-op with JPII in 2003 and became a scholastic team in 2005. This year, although we had the numbers to continue on our own, we chose to co-op with Hillsboro when we found out that their previous co-op had failed and they wouldn’t get an opportunity to play. I believe the two schools have united together to form a single team that benefits all of us.
This past month the hockey team began a campaign to help a local middle school provide hats, gloves, and coats to 100 students who are in need. When a parent heard about the lack of cold weather apparel from the school principal, she brought it up to the club and everyone jumped on board. The drive has been named the Bison Hockey Hat Trick and it has been going very well. We have collected over 100 children’s coats and numerous bags of gloves, hats and scarves already and they are still coming in. When other Hendersonville teams heard they also donated to the cause and we hope the Bison Hockey Hat Trick will continue in the future.
In the past, our team has always helped where we saw a need. They have assisted with the tornado clean up, a car wash to benefit the tornado victims and some of our players helped clean up when the Hendersonville Inline hockey rinks flooded this summer.
The Station Camp/Hillsboro High School hockey team plays in the Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey League. For more information visit www.gnashockey.com.
