Team USA Wins Junior Series vs Russia

Preds 2009 second round draft pick Zach Budish and the US Junior National Team split its weekend games against the Russian Junior National squad, including a 6-0 shutout in the finale, to take the four game series three to one. Budish posted one goal and 12 penalty minutes in the four games, after recording one goal and two penalty minutes in three intrasquad games to open USA Hockey's Junior Evaluation Camp.


In Friday night's game, Russia scored a pair of second period goals to break open a 2-2 tie en route to a 6-4 win. The US out shot the Russians 33-17, including 13-4 in the third period. The Americans pulled within a goal when Matt Donovan converted a power-play 2:37 into the third frame, but the Russians answered back 3:12 later and added a shorthanded tally midway through the third period before th US scored a power-play goal late to close out the scoring.

Team USA rebounded on Saturday night to post a 6-0 shutout behind goaltender Mike Lee. The US controlled the game from the start, drawing 21 power-play opportunities and out shooting Russia 45-12 for the game. The Americans held at least a 10 shot advantage in each of the three periods. Philip McRae opened the scoring with a power-play 13:44 into the opening period. Team USA scord three times in a 7:15 span through the middle of the second period to blow the game open. The US closed the scoring with two more goals in the third period.
