On Saturday, June 17, inline hockey players from across the state of Tennessee gathered at Youth Inc.'s LaVergne Inline Hockey Rink at Veteran's Park to try out for Team Tennessee in the upcoming 2nd Annual State Wars hockey tournament. State Wars is a major roller hockey event where teams representing each state will compete for the National Roller Hockey Championship. The Predators Youth and Amateur Hockey Staff supported the local try-outs by donating banners, door prizes and promotional items while providing an inflatable slap shot cage to entertain the crowd during the daylong event.

More than 60 inline hockey players traveled from over 20 cities in Tennessee, including Jackson, Knoxville, Murfreesboro and Nashville, to audition for Team Tennessee according to their respective birth years. The event was handled by Jason Domitrovic, State Wars National Director, who conducted drills to measure the players skating and puck handling ability as well as their passing and shooting strengths. Although the event was considered a try-out, Domitrovic and his staff offered the players advice and coached them through new skills. The tempo of the tryouts was extremely high as the players gave everything they had to make the state team.  "I was really impressed with the excitement of the players, the intensity of the players and most of all the dedication of the players," Domitrovic said at the conclusion of the try-outs. During a brief break in the action, Ben Loveless of Youth Inc. Inline Hockey Association won a stick autographed by Nashville Predators forward Steve Sullivan.

Afterward, rosters were announced and practice times were scheduled. The teams practiced the following day with Domitrovic, who was again very pleased with what he saw. "The teams really came together," he said. It will now be up to the Team Tennessee coaches and players to prepare for the upcoming nationwide tournament, the 2nd Annual State Wars Hockey Tournament, which will be held in Bensenville, Ill. August 2-13 at The EDGE Hockey Arena. The event will feature over 175 teams from across the United States as state teams face off by birth year.
