Rinne Leads Rookies to YoungStars Game Win

Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne made 19 saves to lead the Rookies to a 9-5 win over the Sophomores in the YoungStars Game at the 2009 NHL All-Star Weekend. A two-time AHL All-Star, Rinne is making his first appearance at the NHL All-Star Weekend.


Rinne allowed just one first period goal as the Rookies jumped out to an early 3-1 lead. The game opened up in the second period with the teams combining for seven goals in the three-on-three exhibition event. Rinne clamped down in the third period, stopping 12-of-13 shots, including a breakaway save on NY Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky midway through the period.

Boston Rookie Blake Wheeler took home the game MVP honors with three goals.
