Shea Weber recorded up another two points, but Pekka Rinne picked up the win as Team Finland edged Team Canada 4-3 in a shootout on Monday. In the other game of note to Preds fans, Switzerland rallied to upset Team USA 4-3 in overtime, a game which featured Nashville’s 2008 first and second round picks with Colin Wilson skating for the US and Roman Josi for the Swiss.

Rinne finished with 29 saves plus an additional four saves during the shootout to backstop the Finns to the win. All three Team Canada goals came on the power-play, with Weber earning assists on the first two goals. Despite the overtime loss, Canada finished first in Group F and will face Latvia in the Quarterfinals. Finland placed second in Group F and will face the United States.

Finland grabbed a 2-0 lead 7:54 into the game, but Weber and Martin St. Louis assisted on Jason Spezza’s power-play goal with 3:58 remaining in the first period to cut the deficit to one. The teams traded power-play goals 54 seconds apart in the middle frame and Dany Heatley tied the score with a man-advantage midway through the third period. After a scoreless overtime, Hannes Hyvonen scored in the seventh round of the shootout to give Finland the win.

In the other game, Swtizerland scored a five-on-three power-play goal midway through the first period to open the scoring, but USA netted three second period goals, including a pair of power-play tallies by Ron Hainsey, to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. Martin Pluss tied the game midway into the third and Roman Wick scored the game-winner just 13 seconds into overtime. With the overtime point, Team USA finished third in Group E while Switzerland placed fifth in the group, just one point behind fourth place Latvia.
