As the colder weather sets in the Nashville Predators Hockey Rules program presented by UnitedHealthcare wraps up its first half of school visits for the season. Since September, Hockey Rules has visited 17 schools, reaching over 1500 students across six middle-Tennessee counties.
Hockey Rules, a free street hockey program for local elementary and middle school physical education classes introduces students to the basic fundamentals of hockey, educates students on the rules of the game and the importance of fitness through athletic participation. Conducted by the experienced staff of the Preds Youth Hockey Development Team each session begins with an introduction to the Preds organization, rules of the game, and equipment needed to play hockey. Students are then coached on the basics of hockey through stick handling and shooting drills. Finally, the clinics wrap up with a full scrimmage, including two fully dressed goalies!
Through grassroots street hockey programs like Hockey Rules the Nashville Predators are able to introduce the exciting sport of hockey to kids throughout the Greater Nashville area and shows kids that all you need is a pair sneakers to play hockey – no ice needed!
As schools get back in session after the holiday break, Hockey Rules will again be out visiting schools! To submit a request for Hockey Rules to stop at your Greater Nashville area elementary or middle school in the coming months, visit www.nashvillepredators.com/hockeyrules or call (615) 770-2152.
