Preds Set to Play In Realigned Central Division During 2020-21 NHL Season

Get to Know New Rivals Predators Will Face Eight Times Apiece in Upcoming Season

by Brooks Bratten @brooksbratten / Senior Communications & Content Coordinator

Meet the new (temporary) Central Division.

After months of negotiating amid a pandemic, the NHL and NHLPA on Sunday afternoon announced an agreement to play a 2020-21 regular-season schedule of 56 games beginning Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, and concluding on May 8. Training camp for the Predators will begin on Jan. 3, 2021.

Plus, due to the ongoing closure of the U.S. and Canadian border, and a desire to minimize travel as much as possible, realigned divisions were a must, and the Central will look a bit different than it ever has before. Some rivalries remain, others will be renewed and a few will be formed for the first time.

Along with Nashville, the division will include a pair of familiar foes, the Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars. Joining those Central mainstays are five clubs that traditionally reside in the Eastern Conference - the Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

The number of clubs in the Central Division increases from seven to eight, and the Predators will play each of their divisional opponents a total of eight times apiece to make up the entire 56-game schedule of the regular season. Exact dates will be announced in the days to come, but the new-look Central is sure to provide drama like we've never seen before.

So, before you form a newfound dislike for the opposition, familiarize yourself with the teams - and players - you'll soon love to despise.
