The Preds ran a split practice today; the bulk of the players -- those scheduled to play in tonight's preseason game at Atlanta -- skated briefly in the morning, while the players not participating in tonight's game went through extended drills, including shootout practice at the end of the session.
Jason Arnott, JP Dumont, and Steve Sullivan were among those participating in the later group. Cody Franson, injured in the preseason opener against Atlanta last Thursday, skated the full practice; same for Ben Eaves, who was also banged up in that same game. Goaltender Mark Dekanich also took the extended practice, while Dan Ellis and Pekka Rinne
prepared for tonight's game. Ellis and Rinne are both expected to see action during the game tonight.Martin Erat
and David Legwand
will highlight the forwards tonight. Marcel Goc, Ben Guite, Patric Hornqvist
, Peter Olvecky, and Mike Santorelli are also expected to get another chance in tonight's game as they try to bolster their chances to make the Opening Night roster. With only two more preseason games after tonight, there are a limited number of opportunities for those players to distinguish himself in the battle for the final roster spots, making a strong showing tonight more important for those players on the roster bubble.
