Preds Prospect News: Blum scores two goals as the Giants beat the Cougars 4-2

by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators
VANCOUVER - Michal Repik and Jonathon Blum scored two goals apiece as the Vancouver Giants doubled the Prince George Cougars 4-2 in WHL action Friday night.

Repik and Blum scored power play goals about four minutes apart in the first period and the Giants (47-15-2-6) coasted the rest of the way before a crowd of 10,487 at the Pacific Coliseum.

The score could have been more lopsided, but Prince George's 20-year-old goaltender Real Cyr was often spectacular as he faced 44 shots.

Spencer Machacek and Mario Bliznak each recorded two assists as they set up both of Repik's goals.

Parker Stanfield and Colin Haas tallied for the Cougars (19-47-13).

The Giants went two-for-seven on the power play while Prince George was blanked on five man-advantage opportunities.

Blum gave the Giants a 3-0 lead on a spectacular rush at 16:07 of the opening period. Starting in the neutral zone, he outraced all Cougar skaters to the net and beat goaltender Cyr with a high wrist on the short side for what eventually proved to be the winning tally.
