Preds Players Talkin' Football

by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators
We talked to Shane O’Brien, Ryan Suter and Joel Ward to talk a little football, and get their predictions on tomorrow’s big game.

Shane O’Brien
Will you be watching the Super Bowl this year?
Absolutely. I still haven’t made my pick, but right now I’m leaning towards the Steelers. I just think their defense is so good and they’ve been there before. Rothlisberger finds a way to get the ball moving on third down; he keeps the chains moving. I think Polamalu and James Harrison and their defense are better than Green Bay, but we’ll see.

How do you think the game’s going to go, do you think it’s going to be a defensive battle?
I think it’s going to be a great game. They are two teams with great history. It can either be a low-scoring game or it could be a 27-21 game or something like that. It’s going to be a hard-fought game and I’m looking forward to watching it.

So are you a fan of the game itself or the commercials?
The commercials are a nice touch because during the regular NFL season the commercials are so painful that… it’s going to be nice to see the people who make commercials put a little extra effort in there and surprise us a little bit. I’m more excited for the game but I do enjoy the commercials.

Do you have a favorite memory from past super bowls?
I guess the 2008 Giant’s Super Bowl win was a good one, when they played against the Patriots and no one gave them a chance and they came in and beat them. Every Super Bowl has its memories in different ways and it’s always a good game. It’s just fun to get together with friends and stuff like that and watch the game.

Would you rather play offense or defense?
I think I would rather play defense, I would rather be a linebacker or defensive end, trying to get at the quarterback. I think I would enjoy the tackling. Some of those offensive players take pretty big hits so I think I would rather be dishing them out than taking them.

If you had a playoff celebration, what would it be, what would it look like?
I like that one guy from Green Bay, he did one of those, one of that (stands up, puts hands on hips, does a little circular motion with hips). I would come up with something on the spot. But I would definitely have something, a little celebration in the back of my mind if I did score a touchdown.

Ryan Suter
Who do you think is going to win this year?
I’m a big Packers fan so they’ll win in a blowout.

Are you more of a watch the game guy or watch the commercials guy?
I’m a watch-the-game guy, I think it’s going to be a tight game. I was just kidding there before. It’ll be a good defensive game, it’ll be a fun game to watch.

Who do you think has the better hair, Clay Matthews or Troy Polamalu?
Definitely Clay Matthews. He looks crazy with his hair the way he’s got it and (Packer linebacker) AJ Hawk too.

Joel Ward
Steelers or Packers?
Steelers, 24-17. I think the first half’s going to be pretty tight defensively with a lot of big hits, then in the second half it is going to open up a bit.

So Rothlisberger or Aaron Rogers, who would you take in your fantasy football team?
I’m a big fantasy football guy, and I would have to go with Aaron Rodgers for that team, but for championships, I would go with Rothlisberger.

Do you have a favorite commercial from the Super Bowl?
Yes, there was one with Chester Pitts, the two Houston players, it was kind of like how he got started and how he was grocery shopping and how he got recruited and how he got started in Atlanta. I think that was from the same year that the Giants played in the Super Bowl (2008).

If you were to have a touchdown celebration, what would it be like?
I would steal the one from Alfred Pupunu, he was a tight end who played for San Diego. He used to pretend the ball was a bottle. He would crack it open and just start chugging.
