Preds File For Team Elected Arbitration With Shea Weber

by Press Release / Nashville Predators
Nashville, Tenn. (June 17, 2011) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile issued the following statement this afternoon:

“It has been, for some time, and remains our intention and goal to sign Shea Weber to a long-term contract with the Nashville Predators. For several reasons, we have been unable to complete a deal to date. Given certain mechanical provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and to provide our franchise with protection for one of our most important assets, the Predators filed paperwork by the designated deadline for potential salary arbitration with Shea Weber.

“While it has never been nor is it ever our preference to file for arbitration with any player, we must do so, on certain occasions, in order to protect our assets. This filing will provide the Predators with the protection of securing one of our most valuable players during the upcoming free agency period while affording us the time to work with Shea’s new representatives towards a mutually-beneficial long-term contract.”
