Preds Cup Opens This Weekend

Tennessee High School Hockey Championship Tournament

When the Nashville Predators arrived there was no high school hockey league and less than 8 teams statewide. Currently over 30 high school teams from Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville areas compete in independent league play for seeding placement into the Preds Cup State Tournament from Oct-Feb. Only 8 teams qualify to compete in the Preds Cup Tournament. The Preds Cup serves as a platform to highlight the top Tennessee high school hockey teams, as well as community outreach initiative supported by the Predators.

2009 Preds Cup Tournament Participants:
Knoxville area high schools - Metro Pirates; Warriors
Memphis area high schools – North Mississippi Monarchs; plus 1 tbd team
Nashville area high schools - Father Ryan Irish Hockey; Hendersonville Commandos;
Pope John Paul II Knights; Centennial Cougars

Games start this weekend with the first game at 3:40 pm on Saturday on Rink 1 at A-Game Sportsplex in Franklin, TN.

Preds Cup Tournament Format
The 2009 Preds Cup will consist of a Preliminary Tournament February 21-22 and a Championship Tournament March 6-7. Two teams from Knoxville, two teams from Memphis and four teams from Nashville make up the eight (8) team round-robin Preliminary Series (Feb. 21-22) featuring a Blue and Gold Division at A-Game Sportsplex located at 215 Gothic Court, Franklin. The top two (2) teams from Blue and Gold Divisions will advance to the Predators Cup Championship Series (Mar. 6-7) at A-Game Sportsplex located at 215 Gothic Court, Franklin, with the Championship game played Saturday, March 7 at 11:25 a.m. at A-Game Sportsplex. All games are open to the public.
