Nashville, Tenn. (February 15, 2022) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the team has signed defenseman Mark Borowiecki to a one-year, $900,000 contract for the 2022-23 season.

Borowiecki, 32 (7/12/89), has skated in 39 games for the Predators in 2021-22, his second season with the organization, and has recorded two assists, a +2 rating and 103 penalty minutes. He leads all Nashville defensemen and is sixth among NHL blueliners in hits with 134; he is also 15th in the NHL in hits per 60 minutes at 15.3. The 6-foot-2, 204-pound native of Ottawa, Ont., has dished out at least five hits in 12 games this season, and has three times recorded a season-high eight hits, most recently doing so on Jan. 22 vs. Detroit. Borowiecki's 51 blocked shots are tied for the third-most on the Predators.
Last season, his first with the Predators, Borowiecki appeared in 22 games, recording one assist and 38 penalty minutes in 13:41 of average ice time. Signed as a free agent with Nashville in October 2020, he is in the midst of his 11th career NHL season and has posted 54 points (15g-39a) in 436 games, 375 of which came with Ottawa from 2012-20. Borowiecki's 1,693 hits since his first full NHL season in 2014-15 are the fifth-most among all NHL players, while his 6.44 blocked shots per 60 minutes are the seventh-most among skaters with at least 200 games played in that time span. Borowiecki, who served as an alternate captain for the Senators in 2019-20, has suited up for eight career Stanley Cup Playoff games, averaging 14:54 of ice time.
Originally drafted by the Senators in the fifth round (139th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Borowiecki has also appeared in 185 career AHL contests with the Binghamton Senators, winning the Calder Cup in 2011 and earning a spot in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2012. Prior to turning pro, the Kanata, Ont., native spent three seasons at Clarkson University, captaining the Golden Knights during his junior year in 2010-11.
Off the ice, Borowiecki serves as the Predators' "Hockey Is For Everyone" ambassador and regularly contributes to Nashville Predators Foundation empowered by SmileDirectClub initiatives throughout the season. In addition to several good Samaritan acts of kindness, he is actively involved with local LGBT charities and supports Canadian military members through the Soldier On program.
