Nashville, Tenn. - Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed defenseman Ryan Parent (PAIR-ehnt) to an entry-level contract.

The Predators' first-round choice (18th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft has joined Nashville's American Hockey League affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, on an amateur tryout agreement.  The Admirals currently lead the Houston Aeros 3-0 in the second round of the 2006 AHL Calder Cup Playoffs.

Parent, 19 (3/17/87), appeared in 60 games with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League this past season and led the club to the OHL's Western Conference Finals.  In the 2005-06 OHL Coaches Poll, the 6-2, 201-pounder who grew up in Sioux Lookout, Ontario was voted the Western Conference's top defensive defenseman. He also finished third in balloting for the OHL's 2005-06 Max Kaminsky Trophy (awarded to the league's most outstanding defenseman).

As part of Canada's top defense pairing, Parent captured a gold medal at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Vancouver.

Parent becomes Nashville's eighth first-round selection to sign an NHL contract and the first of the Predators' seven selections in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft to sign.
