by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators

Nashville, Tenn. - Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced Sunday that the club has signed defenseman Cody Franson (KOH-dee FRAN-suhn) to an entry-level contract.

Franson, 18 (8/8/87), helped the Vancouver Giants capture the Western Hockey League Championship this past season with 55 points (15g-40a) in 71 games.  The 6-4, 205-pound backliner tied for third among WHL defensemen in points and finished fourth in the entire WHL in power-play assists (31). In the WHL playoffs, Franson paced all defensemen with 20 points (5g-15a) in just 18 games.

The Salmon Arm, B.C., native also notched the lone hat trick at the Memorial Cup, a season-ending tournament between Canada's elite major junior teams, en route to leading all blueliners in scoring with five points (3g-2a) in five games.

Franson was Nashville's third-round selection, 79th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
