Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Shea Weber (SHAY WEHB-uhr) from the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.
Weber, 20 (8/14/85), leads AHL rookie defensemen in scoring with 21 points (10g-11a) in 34 games this season. The 6-3, 213-pound Sicamous, B.C. native also leads the Admirals in shots (109) and is tied for second on the club with seven power-play goals.
Currently playing in his first pro season, Weber was the 2005 Western Hockey League playoff MVP for the WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets and was also named the runner-up for the WHL's 2004-05 Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy (defenseman of the year). He was originally a second-round selection (49th overall) of the Predators in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
The Predators' roster stands at 22 with four players (David Legwand, Scott Nichol, Jeremy Stevenson and Scott Walker) on injured reserve.
Weber will look to make his NHL debut tonight when the Predators (25-11-3) host the Detroit Red Wings (27-10-3) at 7:00 p.m. at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. The game will be televised locally on FSN South and broadcast on 104.5-FM The Zone.
While tonight's game is sold out, tickets remain for upcoming Predators action, including Tuesday night's game vs. the New York Islanders and next Sunday's (January 15) tilt with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tickets may be purchased online, at the Gaylord Entertainment Center box office or any Ticketmaster outlet--including Kroger, Tower Records and Hecht's--or by calling (615) 770-PUCK.
