Predators Prospect Update: Nov. 26

by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators
The Preds "d" prospects continue to impress in the opening stages of the 2009-10 season. Roman Josi has established himself as one of the elite young defensemen in Europe. The 2008 second round pick ranks among the d-man scoring leaders in the Swiss Elite League. Josi has already set a new career-high in goals (9) and is just four points shy of his season total from a year ago. While in North America, Nashville's 2009 second round pick, Charles-Olivier Roussel, ranks among the QMHJL defenseman scoring leaders, despite playing on one of the league's lowest scoring teams. Roussel also stood out during the Canada/Russia Super Series. Ryan Ellis, Nashville's 2009 first round pick, has missed 12 of Windsor's first 29 games this season, but still ranks among the OHL leaders in points and assists by a defenseman.

Up front, Craig Smith has gotten off to a fast start in his collegiate career at Wisconsin, posting nine points and a +6 plus/minus rating in his first 10 games. Smith has spent a lot of time skating on a line with fellow Preds prospect -- and Wisconsin team captain -- Blake Geoffrion.
