Predators Prospect Update (Mar. 13)

by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators
Jonathon Blum continues his dominant season in the Western Hockey League with 16 goals and 63 points along with a +51 plus/minus rating in 49 games for the Vancouver Giants. The Giants own the best record in the Western Conference and are ranked No. 3 in the CHL Top-10 rankings.

With the WHL entering the final weekend of the regular season, fellow Preds prospect Chet Pickard has the Tri-City Americans in second place in the WHL's Western Conference and ranked No. 8 in the CHL Top-10. Pickard, 14-2-0 in his last 16 games, ranks among the WHL leaders in wins, goals against average, save percentage, and shutouts this season.

Blum and the Giants will open the playoffs on March at home against Prince George, while Pickard and the Americans will host Everett, also starting on March 20.

In NCAA action, Colin Wilson leads the nation's No. 1 team into the Hockey East tournament with a best-of-three series against Maine. With 14 goals and 46 points in 32 games this season, Wilson enters this weekend as the favorite to win the Hobey Baker Award, college hockey's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy.

Staying in the east, Jeff Foss and RPI -- fresh off a first-round upset of Dartmouth last weekend -- will face ECAC conference No. 2 seed Cornell this weekend. Foss picked up a pair of assists in last weekend's sweep of Dartmouth, including a helper on the series clinching overtime goal in Game 2 on Saturday night.

Ben Ryan and the CCHA regular season champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish face Nebraska-Omaha (former home of current Preds Dan Ellis and Greg Zanon) this weekend in a best of three series, while Taylor Stefishen and Ohio State travel to Alaska-Fairbanks. The winners will advance to the CCHA semifinals next weekend at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

In the WCHA, Blake Geoffrion and conference No. 3 seed Wisconsin open the WCHA Tournament against conference No. 8 seed Minnesota State, while Ryan Flynn and conference No. 5 seed Minnesota open the tournament in a must-win series against conference No. 6 seed St. Cloud State.
