The Nashville Predators have placed goaltender Michael Leighton on waivers. The 6'3", 186-pound native of Petrolia, Ont. was claimed from Anaheim by Nashville on Nov. 27, 2006, after a hand injury sent Predators goaltender Tomas Vokoun to the injured reserve list. Vokoun returned to action last night and made 27 saves to record his 12th victory of the season.
Leighton dressed as backup to Chris Mason for 19 games and played one period on Dec. 21 vs. Buffalo. He made eight saves on 10 shots in 20 minutes of action.
Another NHL team willing to place Leighton on its roster may now claim him before 11 a.m. CT on Thursday. If he goes unclaimed, the Predators can send him to their top developmental affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.
