Predators Acquire Defenseman Alexei Emelin from Vegas

Nashville, Tenn. (July 1, 2017) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Alexei Emelin from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Emelin, 31 (4/25/86), has skated in six NHL seasons, all with Montreal, since 2011. He was claimed in the 2017 Expansion Draft by Vegas on June 21. Last season with the Canadiens, Emelin posted two goals and 10 points to go along with 71 penalty minutes in 76 games. The 6-foot-2, 218-pound blueliner has posted 14 goals, 72 points and 323 penalty minutes in 380 career games.
Selected in the third round (84th overall) by Montreal in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the Togliatti, Russia native has represented his country many times in international competition, winning a gold medal at the 2012 World Championship and earning bronze at the 2007 and 2016 World Championships. Emelin also won gold at the 2004 Under-18 World Championship and earned silver at the 2005 and 2006 World Junior Championships. Emelin also won back-to-back Gagarin Cups in the KHL with Ak Bars Kazan in 2009 and 2010.
Having played in Montreal, Emelin has previously skated alongside current Predators defensemen P.K. Subban and Yannick Weber with the Canadiens.
