Predators General Manager David Poile addressed the media Thursday at noon to officially announce the signing of defenseman Dan Hamhuis to a four-year deal:
"The Predators are pleased to announce that we have come to a four-year agreement with Dan Hamhuis. Obviously he's a very big part of our team, a former first-round pick of the Predators. It was unfortunate that we had to go through a little bit of miscommunication here to get this done, but I think in the last couple of days we got back on track. Really within 24 hours we were able to come up with the deal, late last night.
"He's a really good young player and it's great to know he's going to be here for the next four years.
"I think once we got off of just signing one or two years, and we got talking about three or four years, the negotiations went rather well and very quickly. I think in the communication, we got across to him and maybe confirmed--maybe it got lost a little bit--that we really felt he was an important part of our team and we wanted him. There's no better way of stepping up to the plate, you do that with dollars and you do that with years.... To end up with a four-year deal, I think that says a lot in our commitment to him and vice versa."
