by Jay Levin / Nashville Predators
Antti Pihlstrom figured in both of Team Finland's goals in it's 2-1 win, while Russia out-lasted Latvia in a shootout, 4-3, as all four Preds players picked up wins for the second consecutive day at the 2008 World Championships.

Finland out-shot Latvia 64-27 on the game, but Edgars Masalskis made 62 saves, including 36 in the first period alone. Latvia grabbed a 1-0 lead on Lauris Darzin's goal 1:27 into the game. Pihlstrom tied the score with his first of the tournament 9:21 into the second period and then assisted on the game-winning goal midway through the third period. Janne Niskala picked up an assist on Pihlstrom's second period goal, Niskala's second point of the tournament. With the win, Finland improved to eight points in the Qualifying Round, good for second place in Group F.

Belarus scared Russia, jumping out to 2-0 first period lead. Maxim Afinogenov scored 3:54 into the second period and Alexander Ovechkin netted a pair of third period goals to give the Russian's a 3-2 lead. However, Belarus tied the score with 3:48 remaining in regulation to force overtime. After a scoreless five minute OT session, the game went into a shootout, where Alexei Morozov provided the winner for Team Russia. Alexander Radulov did not play in Russia's shootout win. With the win, Russia tied Czech Republic for the Group E lead with seven points.

Russia returns to action tomorrow against Sweden, Canada faces Germany, and Czech Republic skates against Belarus.
