Preds goaltender Pekka Rinne was perfect in his portion of the contest and P.K. Subban scored a breakaway goal, but the Central Division All-Stars fell in the Semifinal of the 3-on-3 All-Star Game Tournament to the Pacific Division.
Rinne made four saves on four shots, while playing the first half of the game against the Pacific in the four-team tournament that has become customary on the second day of NHL All-Star Weekend. The goaltender's best moment - by a wide margin - came on a spinning, behind-the-back save on one of the NHL's most-talented players, Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers.

"I think everybody by now knows how good he is," Rinne said of McDavid. "It's unbelievable, fun to watch and for a goalie, too. It's a great challenge and fun to go against a guy like him. I was just happy I got the better of him a couple of times.
"He tried to put it over my glove and I got a piece of it, and I felt that it was going to go behind me. I just kind of spun around and I was able to knock it down. I think I was a little bit lucky."

The humility from Rinne is not unexpected, nor are his desperations saves.
"Pekka's save was really good," Preds Head Coach Peter Laviolette, who managed the Central All-Stars, said. "I thought he did a great job, I thought both our guys did really well… P.K. had a nice goal, beautiful goal, made a nice move, nice shot and both of them did really well."
Rinne's blank sheet had the Central up 1-0 at the half, but two consecutive goals in roughly two minutes by Pacific All-Stars Drew Doughty and James Neal on goaltender Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets put the Central behind the eight ball.

Subban converted on a rare breakaway and lept into the Central's bench, while his goal song selection of "In Da Club" by 50 Cent played, to knot the contest at 2-2 with 3:31 left.
"I picked that song. I also picked Whodini's 'The Freaks Come Out at Night' but I guess the NHL kind of botched that one," Subban said with a chuckle.
The Central never got the lead back, however, as Brock Boeser, Brent Burns and Neal all tallied in the final two minutes to give the Pacific All-Stars a 5-2 win. They later followed that victory up by taking out the Atlantic Division All-Stars, 5-2, in the Final to win their second 3-on-3 All-Star Game Tournament in the three years of its existence.

"We wanted to win and get to that second game, but it just didn't happen," Subban said. "But the best part was just playing with Peks and having Lavi behind the bench. I felt really comfortable. It was nice to get into a game situation, especially going into this week, we (the Preds) have some big games."

Added Laviolette on the All-Star Weekend as a whole:
"For me, it's a recognition for our organization, everybody from management and the people that work up in the office and work hard to put people in the building, the staff that works with the team, players certainly, the coaches," said Laviolette. "For me, it's a lot of fun to be here because it represents everybody in our organization."
