Pair of Preds Prospects Playing For NCAA Title Today

by Staff Writer / Nashville Predators
Preds prospects Ben Ryan and Ryan Thang will be playing in this evening's NCAA Championship Game at the Pepsi Center in Denver as they lead the Notre Dame Fighting Irish against the Boston College Eagles. The Championship Game will be broadcast on ESPN at 6 pm CT. In the first three games of the NCAA Tournament, Ryan has recorded 0-2-2 with a game-winning assist, while Thang has posted 2-2-4

The last team to earn an at-large bid into the 16-team tournament, Notre Dame pulled a pair of upsets two weeks ago in Regional play. Notre Dame beat West Regional #1 seed New Hampshire in the first round and defending champion Michigan State in the second round to advance to this week's Frozen Four. Thang had a goal and an assist in the first game, a helper on the goal to tie the game 2-2 late in the first period and an insurance goal to give the Irish a 5-3 lead 0:23 into the third period. Ryan chipped in an assist on Notre Dame's first goal in Game 1 and recorded the only assist on the game-winning goal against Michigan State with 5:54 left in the third period.

In the National Semifinals, Irish beat the nation's No. 1 team, the Michigan Wolverines, 5-4 in overtime. Thang again posted a multi-point game with a goal and an assist, including an unassisted shorthanded goal with 0:35 left in the first period.

Thang was Nashville's third round choice in last summer's entry draft, while Ryan was the team's fourth round pick in the same draft.
