When the Nashville Predators arrived in 1998 there was no high school hockey league and less than eight teams statewide. Currently over 30 high school teams from Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville areas compete in independent league play for seeding placement into the State Tournament - only six teams qualify to compete in the tournament hosted by the Predators. In its tenth year, the Preds Cup serves as a platform to highlight the top Tennessee high school hockey teams, as well as community outreach initiative supported by the Preds.

The 2010 Preds Cup Championship game took place March 21 at A-Game Sportsplex in Franklin. The game featured a re-match of the Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey League championship game where Ravenwood defeated Centennial 4-3 and was named the GNASH Cup Champs; both teams earned a spot on the state tournament. These two teams met again in the first night of Preds Cup games and skated to a 2-2 tie.
It wasn’t a surprise these two highly competitive teams would meet again in the Preds Cup Championship game. A first for the Preds Cup finale, the teams skated to a tie at the end of regulation, continued with a five-minute overtime and then went to six rounds of shootout to determine a winner, Ravenwood 2, Centennial 1.
The Nashville Predators would like to congratulate the Ravenwood Raptors as the 2010 Preds Cup Champs. During the 1st intermission of the March 25th Preds home game against the Phoenix Coyotes, the Preds will Salute the Preds Cup High School Hockey State Champs in an on-ice ceremony! As the Preds Cup Champs, Ravenwood earned a spot at the inaugural USA Hockey High School Nationals in Chicago, April 14-18 to represent Tennessee.
The Nashville Predators established the Preds Cup during the 1999-00 season as part of the team’s mission to increase the awareness of high school hockey in Tennessee. Since then seven teams from Middle Tennessee and three teams from Memphis have won the Preds Cup.
