Nashville, Tenn. (July 1, 2015) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced Wednesday that the club has signed free-agent forward Mike Ribeiro to a two-year, $7 million contract.
Ribeiro, 35 (2/10/80), set a Predators franchise record for assists by a center (47) in 2014-15, tying for 12th in the NHL in the category. He also ranked second on the team in points (62), tied for the third-highest mark by a center in club history. The Montreal native led Predators forwards in average ice time (18:44) during the regular season, and paced all NHL forwards in average ice time during the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs (23:21), tying for the team lead in assists (4), and tying for second in points (5) in the process.
Since the 2003-04 campaign – his first full NHL season – Ribeiro has played the ninth-most games of any NHL forward (831), averaging 62 points a season and posting the seventh-highest assist total (478). An NHL All-Star in 2007-08 when he set career highs in goals (27), assists (56) and points (83), Ribeiro has missed just 10 games his last five seasons.
Montreal’s second selection, 45th overall (second round), in the 1998 Entry Draft, Ribeiro has amassed 718 points (217g-501a) in 947 career NHL games since the 1999-2000 season with Montreal, Dallas (with James Neal and Eric Nystrom), Washington and Phoenix (Arizona).
