Nashville, Tenn. (June 9, 2022) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the team has signed forward Markus Nurmi to a one-year, entry-level contract for the 2022-23 season.
Nurmi, 23 (6/29/98), established career highs in goals (20), assists (19) and points (39) with TPS of the Finnish Liiga this season, his fifth full professional campaign. He led TPS in points, was second in goals and fourth in assists, helping his team reach the Liiga Finals for the second straight season, where they fell to Tappara, 4-1. The 6-foot-4, 176-pound winger added a league-leading 19 points (4g-15a) in 18 postseason contests, including four multi-point outings, headlined by a four-point performance (1g-3a) in Game 4 of the quarterfinals against HIFK. Nurmi spent the past four seasons as a teammate of Predators prospect and 2019 seventh-round pick Juuso Parssinen.

Originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the sixth round (163rd overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Nurmi has skated in 277 career Liiga games since making his debut in 2016, compiling 63 goals and 136 points; he's tacked on 27 points (6g-21a) in 47 postseason contests. Nurmi has improved his point total in each of his last four Liiga campaigns and has reached double digits in both goals and assists in four of his last five seasons. The Turku, Finland, native has represented his country on several occasions, most recently at the 2018 World Junior Championship, where he had three points (1g-2a) in five games. He also took home a gold medal at the 2016 U-18 World Championship and competed at the 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
