Nashville, Tenn. – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed 2012 second-round draft pick Pontus Aberg (PAWN-tuhs AW-buhrg) to a three-year entry-level contract.
Aberg, 20 (9/23/93), spent his first season with Farjestads BK of the Swedish Hockey League in 2013-14, helping the club advance to the 2014 SHL Final. During the regular season, he ranked second on the team in goals (13) and points (31), earning a spot among the league’s Top 25 in goals, as well as power-play points (5g-8a-13pts) and power-play markers. In 2012-13 with Djurgarden – the same team that produced current Predator Patric Hornqvist and prospect Patrick Cehlin – the 5-11, 199-pound winger led all Swedish second division (Allsvenskan) junior players, and ranked 13th among all skaters, in points (12g-28a-40pts).
Nashville's first choice, 37th overall (second round), in the 2012 Entry Draft, Aberg was a finalist for the 2012 Swedish Elite League Rookie of the Year with Djurgarden after ranking second among league junior players in goals (8) and points (15), and tying for third in assists (7) in 2011-12.
