by Press Release / Nashville Predators

Nashville, Tenn. (February 17, 2015) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced Tuesday that the team has recalled defenseman Anthony Bitetto from Milwaukee (AHL) and placed defenseman Anton Volchenkov on Injured Reserve.

Bitetto, 24 (7/15/90), has appeared in four games for the Predators this season – his first four NHL contests – recording seven penalty minutes. The Island Park, New York, native is also tied for 12th among AHL defensemen in points (2g-23a-25pts), while being tied for sixth among blueliners in assists. A season ago, his first full campaign at the AHL level, the 6-0, 215-pounder tied for sixth among AHL defensemen in goals (11), and for ninth in power-play goals (6).

Nashville's fourth choice, 168th overall (sixth round), in the 2010 Entry Draft, Bitetto did not miss a game during a two-year collegiate career at Northeastern University (Hockey East) from 2010-12, compiling 35 points (7g-28a) in 72 games, and helped the Indiana Ice win the 2009 Clark Cup as United States Hockey League champions. He is on Twitter @ABitetto7.

Currently in the midst of a five-game winning streak, the Predators have picked up points in 20 of their last 23 games (16-3-4) and sit atop the NHL standings. The Preds close out their four-game home stand tonight versus San Jose (7 p.m. CT, FOX Sports Tennessee, 102.5 The Game) before departing on a three-game Eastern Conference road trip that begins Thursday against the Islanders and continues on to games versus the Flyers (Saturday at 12 p.m.) and Sabres (Sunday at 5 p.m.).

The Preds return to Bridgestone Arena next Tuesday, Feb. 24 to take on the Colorado Avalanche, the first of a three-game home stand to finish out the month of February.
