When the typical wine connoisseur envisions an experience to sample wines, a quaint room inside a winery may come to mind; or the view of an expansive central California vineyard; possibly even a dinner party with close friends - not inside an ice hockey rink.

The Nashville Predators are hosting their 12th Annual Wine Festival & Tasting on Friday, March 31, and not only will guests be sampling wine and hors d'oeuvre inside a hockey rink, they will be doing so on a floor atop the NHL club's home ice inside Bridgestone Arena. It is literally the "coolest" wine festival in town.

"As one of the drivers for the Nashville Predators Foundation's annual grants program, this event helps guarantee that in six-weeks' time we will be distributing $500,000 to the Middle Tennessee community, as our largest one-time allocation," Senior Director of Community Relations Rebecca King said.

After 12 years, the event keeps growing in size and selection, offering guests more than 250 higher-end wines, beers and spirits to pair with the culinary delicacies from 16 local Nashville restaurants such as Frothy Monkey, Jim 'N Nick's and Merridee's Breadbasket.

Tickets are currently on sale for the event, which runs from 6 - 10 p.m. (CT) and includes a complimentary Preds-branded wine glass for sampling. Fans eager to meet the man supplying a selection of wines for the evening can also purchase tickets for an exclusive VIP experience; Michael Hendry of Hendry Wines will lead guests through a five-course dinner in the Patron Platinum Club pairing food with hand-crafted Hendry wine.

"Our wine festival is positioned on a Friday night between two home games during a very exciting part of the season with the playoffs looming," King said.

Fans can make it a Preds-filled long weekend by enjoying the game on Thursday, festival on Friday night and then attending the 1:00 p.m. game against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
