Since the end of the season my summer has been pretty low key; it has mostly been full of family, golf, boating and workouts.
I spent most of May back home in Sicamous, BC; some free time with my family. Sicamous has two big lakes, so it is somewhat of a tourist town, however other than going to the beaches and boating there is not much to do.
Early in the summer I spent a lot of time on the lake and playing golf. I enjoy playing golf with a group of local guys I have made friends with over the years. When out on the lake boating I spend a lot of time with teammate Shea Weber
. Along with Shea there are a number of hockey guys in the area; a lot guys who with in Juniors and a bunch of other NHL players.
After spending time in Sicamous, my girlfriend Mandy and I took a trip to Bowling Green, Ohio to attend the wedding of Mark Matheson, a teammate while playing for the Milwaukee Admirals. It was a short trip, nevertheless it was an honor to be in attendance.
Shortly after my trip to Ohio, I set off to Calgary. I was there to do some training but managed to squeeze in the time to see a Tom Petty concert.
In June I started my official training; went from Sicamous to Kelowna and started focusing on getting ready for this season. I keep up with running and cardio all summer, but it was time to get back into a normal routine! I have four days of lifting and workouts, two rest days, and Sundays completely off. I made it back home to Sicamous every other weekend while continuing my training. It is great to come home on the weekend, spend time on the boat, at the golf course or at home with the family cooking out.
I am excited and looking forward to the start of the season. I think the organization has made some great moves over the summer that are really going to help the team out. I can't wait to get back out on the ice in Nashville.
